Amazon.com Review
The blades in this set of slim, lightweight knives are stamped in stainless steel, and their edges are microserrated and therefore touted as never needing sharpening. The handles are formed of tough polypropylene and are seamless, allowing for better hygiene. The set includes six kitchen knives, six 5-inch steak knives, and a rubber-footed wood block that has slots for them all. The kitchen knives include an 8-inch chef's knife with a curved blade for rocking through a chopping task; a 5-inch tomato knife with a narrow, curved blade; an 8-inch bread knife; a 6-inch utility knife; a 6-inch boning knife for meats, poultry, and fish; and a 2-1/2-inch paring knife for peeling and cleaning vegetables and fruits. As a bonus, a pronged-tip knife designed to slice cheese and spear the slices is included. While the knives are dishwasher-safe, they should be hand washed to preserve their edges. Unlike Henckels's premier knives, which are made in Germany, these knives are made in China; however, they do carry the company's lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

For the money... you can't go wrong!!4
We purchased these knives...and think they've been worth every penny. They're sharp, comfortable to grip, aesthetically appealing, and come in a nice assortment. Certain knives like the Chef's knife and the table/steak knives have become the proverbial 'work horse' of the set while the tomato knife hasn't really seen the light of day since it left the box. The polypropylene handles are capable of withstanding high temperatures and, because of their nature, do not harbor bacteria like some sets that contain rivets or those with wooden handles.

While this is a great set, it is not a high-end set, so you may want to look elsewhere if that's what you're after. None of the knives have a full-tang (where the steel goes all the way through the handle) or rivets. The handles are plastic. Also, the steel is from Japan (if I'm not mistaken) instead of Germany and boy, do the Germans know how to make steel!

So, dear friends, if you're looking for a set that you can pass on to your children and your children's children then you should indeed move up the Henckels line or look into Cutco (my favorites) or another high-end set. If you're looking to buy a good, inexpensive set that looks great and is every bit as functional, then look no more!

Also, consider looking into a pair of kitchen shears... they're indespensible!

Good Deal For The Price4
Our knives were in pretty awful condition - I was getting tired of pushing the blade of the steak knife back in the handle every time I sawed through a piece of meat. Sure I'd love to have a set of top-grade Henckels but given the price of something like that plus the fact that we don't use knives that often, I figured this second-tier set was worth a try. The knives are nice and sharp. The construction quality is decent and it suits our purposes fine - they look good, cut well and fit in the block like they are supposed to. So what if they don't do well in the dishwasher? How much trouble can it be to hand-wash a knife? For $..., they're a fine deal. I'm glad I bought them.

These steak knives look so great I barely want to use them. J.A. Henckels TWIN Gourmet knives combine traditional quality and value. Features of this dependable knife series include: triple-riveted handle design, balanced tang, and high-carbon, stainless steel blades. This set is a perfect complement to a meal among steak lovers.
Sharp and well-balanced, these knives slice and cut through steaks smoothly for a graceful dining experience.
The laser controlled edge is sharp, and stays sharper longer. In addition, TWIN Gourmet knives use J.A. Customer Reviews

Fantastic5
I got a set of four of these same steak knives for Christmas 2004, and they've been excellent. They've seen constant use and are still razor-sharp.

It's been a real revelation to me: So this is what good kitchen knives are like, and this is why they cost more than the lightweight stuff!

I've never had a genuinely good chef's knife, paring knife, etc. But when I'm ready to get a serious set, I know exactly what brand I'll buy.

Adequate Cutlery4
I purchased these knives after having purchased and returned mundial steak knives that had great blades, but the black plastic handles faded after only one hand washing. These knives have serrated blades and are fine for cutting steak on a plate, and I don't think I would want steak knives to be any sharper than what these are, because if so, they would damage my dinner plates. You aren't supposed to wash them in the dishwasher, but I have several times now and they came through as good as new. The rose wood box is nothing special, but it's okay. Overall, for the price, I'm quite happy with these knives.

Great Set Of Knifes!!5
I just received these knifes and I was very pleased. The quality was great on the knifes and the box was even nice. You are always hesitant buying something without seeing it, but I was pleasantly surprised with this set. For the money you just can't beat it.

A good Value for the Price4
We're enjoying this set of knives (the ones they replaced were over 30 years old). They have a nice weight and balance and do well in the dishwasher. The serrated edges make them useful for other foods, too. We would recommend them to anyone who's looking for moderately-priced steak knives that are also nice-looking.

Simple, Sharp, Beautiful Design5
We use these simply elegant knives with our daily flatware/stoneware, our casual evening silver/china and our special occasion silver/china-- their flawless and subtle-looking on our table with all three-- and sharp enough to easily cut through any meat/vegi.

Great set of knives!5
Great set of steak knives goes well with my flatware. Excellent Sercice

Amazon.com Review
A great gift, this set provides a cook with enough versatility to accomplish most kitchen jobs. The chef's knife, with its broad blade and curved cutting edge for rocking through a chopping task, chops, minces, slices, and dices. The utility knife slices, cuts, and chops; its 5-inch blade is large enough to trim a chuck roast or subdue a head of lettuce. The paring knife cuts, peels, and cleans fruits and vegetables. Henckels's International Fine Edge is an inexpensive cutlery line made in countries other than the company's home of Germany. These knives don't have bolsters, and their blades are thinner and less strong than those of the company's premier lines. Handles are narrower and shallower, as well--a feature those with small hands might appreciate.

Henkles Pro 3pc5
Having sharp, quality knives in the kitchen is essential. I have owned this set for a couple years and it is still in great shape. Good form, easy to hold and they stay sharp with the right care.

Good Enough - and then some4
Purchased these to go with a 7 inch Henckels International santoku that I've been using for years, and the phrase that comes to mind to describe all Fine Edge cutlery is "good enough." No, it isn't restaurant quality, and yes, if you put these through the dishwasher they'll tarnish and probably even start to rust (any metal designated as "stainless" is rust resistant rather than rust proof, and reviewers of other Henckels products complaining about rust and tarnish probably aren't treating their knives very well). As a graduate student on a budget who enjoys cooking, but doesn't always have the time for it, these knives are an ideal compromise between price and quality. Be aware that they will occasionally require sharpening - I've had the santoku for almost three years and run it through a commercially available ceramic disk sharpener every few months and it still cuts very nicely - and should probably be hand-washed for longest life. With that little bit of maintenance, however, this three piece set can meet nearly all of your cooking needs (it meets all of mine, but then I don't often dress poultry, filet my own fish, or do much that would require a cleaver or really subtle boning knife) for quite a nice price.

Great starter/essential knife set4
I'm a senior in college that has recently moved into my first apartment - and obviously needed to get some kitchen essentials without breaking my very malnourished bank account. I came across these - three Henckels knives at a pretty decent price - and decided to go with it. The knives are amazing - I only wish I could find a good yet cheap knife sharpener to go along with it as they (like any other knives) will lose their fine sharp edge after continued use without sharpening. If you're looking for a cheap and essential knife set with good quality - this is the product for you.

J.A. Henckels S.O.S. 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set in Wood Gift Box

Product Description

A percentage from each sale of the steak knives will be donated to Share Our Strength anti-hunger program in the United States.

Amazon.com Review
Packed in a beautiful wood storage box, the eight knives in this set slice steaks, chops, or roasts and, because they're stainless steel, they match stainless-steel flatware at the dinner table. The knives have 4-inch blades cleverly angled to prevent wrist strain while applying maximum pressure. The edges are serrated so they do tend to tear meat fibers rather than slicing cleanly through them as straight-edge steak knives do. Stamped from high-carbon stainless steel, the knives have 18/10 stainless-steel handles and are dishwasher-safe. The storage box is heirloom quality, with a glowing, deep-auburn mahogany finish. Knives rest in wood slots at an angle that makes them easy to retrieve. The box measures 15 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 1-3/4 inches deep and has brass clasps. For each sale of this gift set, Henckels makes a five-dollar donation to Share Our Strength, an antihunger program initiated and supported by U.S. professional chefs.

best steak knife I've owned5
Everything about this set is first class, from the wood box it comes in to the beautiful finish to the excellent cutting edge.
Highly recommended

Great value5
I was looking to get a quality set of steak knives at a reasonable price. These knives are sharp, balanced and easy to use, obviously well made. My family is delighted with them.

The wood presentation box is a nice touch.

All in all, a very good value.

Great deal , wonderful gift5
Call me lazy but I have discovered that this steak knife set makes a wonderful wedding gift and have bought 4 of them in the past six months. You can't beat the combination of quality and beauty when giving this set as a gift ! The price is right and I get rave reviews for my choice on every thank you card.

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet High-Carbon Stainless Steel Steak Knives, Set of 4

Product Description

Trying to cut through meat with a dinner knife is a recipe for disaster, as in Caribbean Jerk Pork Chops meet wool blend trousers. Provide each place setting with its own steak knife for a much more enjoyable dining experience.

Amazon.com Review
From one of Henckels' moderately priced cutlery lines, these four steak knives will divide any rib-eye, chop, or roast into bite-size pieces. The thin, curved blades are perfect for precise cutting, though their fine serrations tend to tear meat fibers rather than slice neatly through them. Stamped from high-carbon stainless steel, these knives are lighter in weight than forged knives and don't have bolsters, which might not be essential when confronting a thick prime rib. The synthetic handles feature classic three-rivet styling with full tangs for strength. The knives are dishwasher-safe and they carry a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews

Nice steak knives but a Questionable blade design...4
Got this knives set during an Friday Sale. A real good deal for Swilling JA Henckels product line. The blade is similar to the Henckels 4/5 star and Pro-s blades except this is stamped instead of forged. Although this is a stamped knife, the blade is actually thicker than the blade of a comparatively higher line of 4/5 star, so Forged or Stamped blade makes no difference for this steak knife. These steak knives make cutting steak easy and "classy". Your friends would think these knives are very expensive, for which is the contrary. If this set got any cheaper like the previous sale, just get a few sets at once, you won't regret it. Just beware not to sharpen it on a steel or manual sharpener, it has to be prifessionally sharpened. The only puzzling thing is in the weird design of the blade where there is a little offset curve blade near where the blade and its handle meet; what is this offset for, it can actually cuts a finger if someone got a big hand. Just be careful in handling any type of knives.

The Best Steak Knives Ever!5
I received a set of these steak knives as a gift for my wedding shower last year. They are absolutely astounding - they cut the toughest meat, and make slicing tomatoes a dream. They do not bend or warp like other steak knives I have used. I just purchased a second set, because my husband loves them so much the first set is constantly in the dishwasher!!!

The best!5
The best set of steak kinves we have ever owned. Exceptionally well made, good feel, and keeps a sharp edge for years. Highly recommended. I'm about to buy more of them as my wife uses them for everything.

Henckels twin kitchen set5
If I had known about the excellent quality and performance of this kitchen scissors and knife set I wouldn't have wasted my money on cheaper versions. The scissors are rugged and sharp; they can cut through chicken bones easily. Be extra careful when using the knife, especially the first few times; it's so super sharp that the blade may suddenly surprise you...if you know what I mean. I was used to having to use force when cutting something but NOT with this knife. Highly recommended.

Great knives3
Knife is great...very sharp. Maintains edge really well. The shears are OK. Sharp, but the handle is not as sturdy as I anticipated.

Great Product from a superior Brand at a bargain Price!5
Excellent product that any cook will use everyday! Kitchen shears have so many uses that the average armchair chef fails to realize. Definitely a timesaver product!

J.A. Henckels International 3-Piece Paring Knife Set, Black

Hygienic, break proof, and dishwasher safe (not recommended by J.A. Henckels International)

Customer Reviews

Good set. Great price.5
I purchased this three piece paring knife set in addition to a more expensive Henckels paring knife J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 3-Inch High Carbon Stainless Steel Paring Knife. This set is good quality. Stamped on the blades are the words "German Stainless Steel" and "Made in China". They have a good sharp edge and a textured, shaped plastic handle that provides a good grip. The package says that the knives are "stamped one-piece blade construction for strength and durability". It also says that the handles are "fully closed polypropylene", "breakproof, dishwasher safe, and hygienic." They are lightweight and have a nice finish on the blades.

Nice knves5
Great set of paring knives. They are very sharp & do well after several trips in the dishwasher.

For the price, an amazing set of knives.4
I have owned knives with riveted handles for as far back as I can remember. While they are fine for Chefs Knives and Utility Knives, I have never liked their bulky feel for paring knives. After using some "As Seen On TV" knife with a similar ergonomic handle I was hooked on the feel and decided to purchase some new paring knives.

My only complaint would have to that the edge, right out of box, felt a little rough. They cut well enough, but on tougher foods I felt it was grabbing a bit too much. Five minutes on the Lansky Universal Sharpening System quickly corrected that, though.

They may not be the best knives you have ever used, but for the price I could hardly ask for more. I certainly don't foresee replacing them anytime soon.

Forgot to do my homework3
Several years ago I bought the 4-pack set of these knives, manufactured by Zwilling-Henckels. I was so happy with them I bought some for others in my family. We use them almost daily, so I wanted to get another set. While looking around on the site, I noticed this 3-piece set which cost 1/2 as much as the 4-piece! What a deal I thought! The only knife missing was the red-handled one, which I use the least anyway. Unfortunately, I forgot to do my homework. Yes, these ARE Henckels knives but NOT the same Henckels knives I have and love. Henckels has two lines, the "premium" brand and the "value for the money" brand. The first set of knives I bought were the "premium" brand and this set from Henckels, International, are the "value for the money" brand. These knives are very similar to the first set I bought but they are not the same. The handles are slightly different, they aren't as sharp, and I have already noticed some small rust stains on the blades, though I was able to scrub them off. These knives are ok for the price, but they aren't as good as the set from Zwilling-Henckels, which I would have given 5 stars.

Cheap & Cute Henckel's5
They cut sharp enough, it's just they're very light-weighted so they don't have the stability feeling which I think the only drawback if you expect something decent. Otherwise the price is right, you'll be happy with the well functioning colourful little knives!

My favorite "every-day" knives ...5
These are *extremely* sharp, really high quality knives for the price. I have a really good, really expensive set of knives that I use for "specialty" tasks, but I find myself grabbing these little knives for my normal day-to-day use.

I also have the other inexpensive Henckels set, the one that includes these three knives plus a red-handled longer knife. It's not worth the extra money, in my view. That little red knife has a rounded tip, is serrated, and the only thing I ended up using it for was slicing sandwiches. For the money, this set of three knives is an outstanding value. I just bought another set to have a spare.

Amazon.com Review
Anyone who's ever chafed at washing steak knives by hand will appreciate the low-maintenance appeal of this elegant cutlery. It features clean, modern lines, dishwasher-safe materials, and a high-carbon stainless steel blade that slices through thick porterhouse steaks as if they were butter. Sleek, one-piece construction is both stylish and practical, as there's no attached wooden handle to wiggle loose. Durable stainless steel resists corrosion, and the serrated cutting edge never needs sharpening. Henckels International is a moderately-priced, high-value line of cutlery made in countries outside Henckels's home base in Germany. They're stamped rather than forged, and made from somewhat thinner metal. However, they're made with the same attention to detail as higher-priced Henckels knives, and are covered by a lifetime warranty. --Mary Park

Customer Reviews

Better than our other brand knives4
I bought these knives at Target several years back. Although they *occassionally* get dishwasher stains on the handles, the blades themselves never get dishwasher stains on them, which is important to me; my girlfriend bought a different set of stainless steel steak knives (different manufacturer) that consistently come out of the dishwasher with massive rust stains on the blades themselves, which makes me not use them (who wants to eat rust). This makes me appreciate the Henckels set even more: I would definitely recommend this Henckels set.

Great Product!5
I received a set of these knives aboout 5 years ago as a wedding present and bought another set to complete 12. These are great quality, durable and I've even used them combined with more formal silverware. I highly recommend it.

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp 8-Piece Steak Knife Set

Product Description

Henckels International Eversharp 8-Piece Steak Knife Set

Amazon.com Product Description
Henckels International leverages the knowledge and expertise synonymous with its manufacturer's famous name to produce high value products at a lower cost. Many characteristics of the premium brand carry over to these more affordable blades. Forged from a single piece of stain-resistant steel, each knife offers a full tang and the classic triple-riveted handle. Measuring 8-1/4 inches in length, the cutting edges feature a serrated texture to easily slice steak, tuna, or pork into bite-sized morsels. Additionally, the blades can ably tackle any number of kitchen cutting and slicing tasks. Without the need for sharpening, the cutlery is virtually maintenance-free and even cleans safely in the dishwasher--although hand washing is preferred. Comprising eight knives, this set makes an excellent wedding or shower gift.

Customer Reviews

Good quality knives, reasonably priced5
I have several Henckels Eversharp steak knives that are several years old and they continue to cut well and have survived many dishwasher cycles. I just added six more that I recently purchased from Amazon and expect similar performance from these. I also own a set of Henckels Four Star knives that are over 20 years old. They do not go into the dishwasher but need regular sharpening/honing. The steak knives are not in the same league as the Four Star line but they are very convenient (just toss in the dishwasher), relatively inexpensive, perform well and are fairly durable.

My recommendation is to go with these knives if you are looking for a set of steak knives to be used on a daily basis.

You're NOT Getting Stabbed In The Back With These Knives!!!5
Well, gee whiz! All the negative press these under-rated knives are getting! I managed to slice my fingers (DEEP!) spewing blood...just trying to get them out of their packaging! They're plenty sharp alright!I didn't find them at all flimsy, wobbly or thin! On the contrary, I found them to be stable and sturdy with just the right amount of "heft". Makes me wonder WHAT people are trying to saw thru with these knives!
The knife blades are riveted to the wooden handles, the blade edge is serrated for a good sharp cut, and they DO cut very well!
For the price, for everyday use, these knives are a great deal!

Awesome for the Price!5
These knives are really great for the price. They are sharp and sturdy and do the job.

I have a set of $350 steak knives so I know what the reviewers are speaking of when they say these aren't real Henckels. That being said, THEY ARE ONLY $30. It is quite bold to pay $30 for a set of knives and then give a one star review saying that they are cheap. What did you expect?!? You bought $30 knives but reviewed as if you spent over $100. That's just seems dishonest.

You won't go wrong buying these knives. You can use them for everyday and toss them in the dishwasher and in a pinch you can disobey the cardinal rule and use one of them to open an Amazon Box because hey, they were only $30!!

Amazon.com Review
This set represents a revelation for any cook with a drawer full of stained, blunt knives. Nearly every basic kitchen-cutlery need is satisfied in one package compact enough to place on the counter within reach. The set includes a 7-inch hollow-edge santoku, an 8-inch chef's knife, a 5-inch serrated utility, and a 3-inch paring knife for peeling and cleaning vegetables and fruits. A 9-inch sharpening steel keeps their edges in order, and a pair of kitchen shears to snip herbs, flowers, or string is also included. Everything fits into the rubber-footed, solid hardwood block. International Fine Edge is an inexpensive cutlery line made in countries other than Henckels's home of Germany. The knives don't have bolsters and the steel is of lesser quality than Henckels's premier lines--the blades are less strong. Knives are dishwasher-safe, but it's not recommended. --Fred Brack

Henckels Makes The Very Best--Even In Their Lower Line5
I have had this set of Henckels International Line knifes and block for a few years now and am very satisfied. No, it is not the most expensive grouping they make but they are wonderful. They stay sharp with very fine edges. My favorite is the bread knife, perfectly balanced to finely slice my homemade rye & pumpernickle swirl breads. Note: I do hand-wash mine, even though thay are dishwasher safe.

At a good bargain price, you get 5 knifes for almost any task, the wood block with the Henckels logo, a sharpener, and even a slot to add a pair of Henckels kitchen shears (which I highly recommend).

Of course, if you can afford it, the higher line must be exquisite. But due to their lower cost, I was able to give a set of these to my brother last year with a gift certificate to a gourmet butcher shop & he was ecstatic. This grouping makes a perfect starter set--great for newlyweds, house-warming parties, and holiday gifts--just ask my brother!

Not what you might hope for3
These knives could be worse, but given the fancy name and reputation, they could be a lot better, too. The blades are not as stiff as you might like. Flexy blades scare me not out of fear of breakage, but rather that they are harder to control and more likely to cut something you don't want cut. Also, the Chef's knife has a pretty shallow blade, and you can't do the cool chef-chop without rapping your knuckles on the cutting board. For the money, there are better (though less prestigious) knife sets out there.

You can get a lot better knife for the price1
I don't even feel these knives are worth the advertised price. I have used these for about 5 years and have been thoroughly unimpressed. I gave these one star because Henckels should be ashamed to put their name on these knives.

pros: They work (sort of), they are relatively cheap, and you get the Henckels name. I have washed mine in a dishwasher for 5 years and they still hold up.

cons: The steel is poor quality (doesn't hold an edge well), the fit and finish is poor, and the set is over priced for their underwhelming performance.

bottom line: You can get an equivalent set of knives for less money that performs better, you just won't have the Henckels name.

I sharpen these knives and they are dull within just a few uses. The stainless steel is soft and unimpressive. The honing steel that comes with these should only be used for these knives as it puts micro serrations in the blades to give them the impression of being sharp (using this every time will keep these knives nice and sharp feeling).

I think most people will find much better performance from a high carbon stainless knife set from most other companies (like Chicago Cutlery's Forum line), you just have to put up with a little staining.

I have been slowly building a professional level knife collection. Start with a high quality chef's (or something like a santoku), bread/carving knife, and a paring knife and work up from there. I couldn't tell you how happy I have been moving to "real" knives, the difference is amazing. If you buy Henckels make sure to buy the ones with the 2 stick men as they are higher quality (non international). The Wusthof Classic set is also a good starting point for good knives. My current set contains an Al Mar paring knife, a Fallkniven chef's knife, and a Wusthof Classic Santoku along with all these Henckels that I am replacing.

If you want cheap but very functional knives, I would recommend Forschner knives. They aren't pretty, but they function as well as any of the good Henckel's or Wusthof's.
